How Can severe Weight Loss Along With Dysphagia Be Treated?

My mother has been receive dilations of the esophagus (about 3 so far), but is still unable to swallow food. She has lost a tremendous amount of weight due to other ongoing problems over the last three years and now has developed dysphagia, which happened not too long after she had an operation to re-route the beginning of her small intestine to the other side of her stomach so food could pass through in that area. What else can be done? She is down to under 100 pounds and she is about 5 11 .

Hi,

Severe weight loss and dysphagia is a sign of throat or esophagus cancer.

Do upper GI endoscopy and PET CT scan.

Take more of protein in your diet.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Monish De,
